Good work yesterday everyone. I hope you are all suitably nervous and have gone home to work on your lines, blocking and bring your character into your body not just your head.
BRING COSTUMES AND PROPS AND LET'S GET BUSY!!!
Brendan I hope you will be feeling much better next week!
Antonia We are all so proud of you. What a voice, what wonderful characterization. Keep up the good work
William I really need you to think Loud and get those lines out on time. Good work yesterday! YOU MUST HAVE YOUR GLASSES
Nick Time to bring on the costume, settle in and make it great!
Colin Louder is what I kept thinking yesterday wonderful job on memorization. Now time for you to kick it up a notch. The play is called JAMES and the
Angel nice work, slow done, ground your character and help Andrew out by looking at him and bringing him into the scene.
Kaitlyn Good work bigger, louder and with your whole body. Time to remember that you are a bossy insect. Practice your songs, slow them down.
Lincoln Do you need to leave early every week? Glad you are healthy now lets get our insect cast well rehearsed together!
Callie we missed you
Katie Nice work good volume and characterization
Esther Thanks for the help, good work
Chloe Remember that beginning blocking and come with costume. Good work.
Brian Excellent characterization and volume. Keep it up. Now is the time for you to have FUN!!
Andrew The fact that you pretty much refused to run lines and then got up and stumbled means you have homework! This is a team effort not a bunch of individuals standing on stage. We are all counting on you to show up - nervous is fine, we are all in this together poorly prepared means you are letting people down. You have a great voice and are a natural at talking Lets use it!!
Calvin I think weve got the lighting and staging figure out. Now well need to put the cues in your script. I hope you will stay through to the end of the next rehearsals.
Thanks for your effort.

5/14 class and rehearsal on stage 1:40- 4:30
5/21 class and rehearsal on stage 1:40 Performance at 4:00
5/28 class and rehearsal on stage 1:40- 3:00
Performance at 7:00 (arrive 6:30)
3/5 - memorize, memorize, memorize, memorize, memorize, memorize and in case I forgot to tell you memorize your lines.
2/13/08 - Many missing today so we played games and relaxed. Very important for you all to bring your completed (color) Set and Costume designs on 2/27. I will be entering them into the grade book. Everyone is off book as well that day - so we can finish blocking and get to the super fun part of the rehearsal process. Looks like many folks have already gone to Value Village. This is probably a better idea than trying to get a field trip together. Thanks for your hard work.
2/6/08 - Please come with your costume designs finished and embark on a set design for James. Also, get those lines memorized. I will post the dates of our show later this week.
1/16/08 - Today we talked about characterization and almost made it to the end of the play with an excellent read thru. Please continue to work on memorization and development of character traits. We are off to see Julius Caesar tomorrow - please be on time and remember your props and scripts for next week.
1/2/08 - Today we worked on creating our characters using body motion and simple props. Please bring something next week that will help you establish your character.( example - hat or gloves or glasses or...) We performed our Pantomimes and they were (for the most part) terrific.
Please read your scripts carefully. Underline important words or bits of information that will help you establish your character. Of course I need not remind you to come to class with your script in hand each and every class period.
12/12- Wonderful work by everyone that came prepared. You are all growing in such fabulous theatrical ways. I will have the cast list ready next week. Homework is to prepare a one minute pantomime that is very polished.
12/5 - Today in class we read thru James and the Giant Peach. Excellent job done by all! Please have a one minute monologue memorized so we can work on it at any time.
11/28 Today we saw some new work from Chloe, Angel, Colin, Nick and Brian and some continued work from Kaitlyn, Callie, Esther and Heidi and more. At this point everyone should have one if not two memorized working monologues. Again I must affirm that for High School folks taking this class for credit - full participation and coming prepared is essential (for everyone actually) Keep up the work. Put your best foot forward always!
11/21 Wonderful presentation by Brendan and excellent rework of scenes by many ...Nick, Brian, Steven and Esther to name a few. You each need a piece of a play that you have memorized so we can work on blocking, physical and vocal variety. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today in class we had stunning performances from Antonia, Callie, Steven, Brian, Nick & Colin. With an effort by Angel, Chloe, Willie and Kaitlyn. No home work done by Calvin, Andrew, Lincoln, Heidi, Esther or Brendan. This was a two week assignment and as you can see below, it was listed, clear and very doable.
Our 5 min. Into the woods was wonderful - Congratulations to the actors and directors. If you did not come prepared today - Please come ready for next week. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Field Trip Wed. Nov. 7th to The 5th Ave. Theater to see INTO THE WOODS. We must leave Carnation at 8:30am. Please have your student to the school before that time. The show is approx. 2 hours. We should be back in Carnation/Duvall by 1:00. Please bring a sack lunch or snack to enjoy in the car.
Keep track of how many people and jobs that it took to mount this production. Example - a team of costume designers, sewing folks, fabric painters etc...
Also remember that your homework for the next two weeks is to find a piece in a play - memorize it and bring a prop (glasses, cane, hat, blender...anything that works in the scene) to use while you do the scene. The prop should not just be held but must become a part of the action and the scene should be from any play (not movie) and be at least one minute long. Have fun and I can't wait to see what you all come up with.
Welcome to Drama class 2007/2008
We are currently working on drama games, team building, vocal and physical activities to strengthen our acting instrument.
Please follow this link to download the drama field trip form and permission slip.
10/3 Home work is to continue to work on your poems and come ready to perform the poem for multiple voices that we handed out in class. Think about your voice - clarity and strength. Think about your body, confident and still.
