  1. Select a “less publicized election contest” and find 2 “current event” articles about the race. Cut or copy them, read and complete one form for each.  Articles can be found in newspapers, news magazines, and on internet news links. Attach a copy of each article to the form. Be  careful to choose a contest that interests you because we will follow it until the election
  2. On your US map:
    1. Label the rivers shown and locate the major mountain ranges on the river side of the page.
    2. Locate and label 15 of the Native American tribes we discussed, on the side of the map with the state outlines

  1. Choose a country or type of government. Research how the government of that country or type of government works. Draw an organization chart showing the role of leaders and citizens in:
    1. Selecting leaders
    2. Making laws
    3. Enforcing laws
    4. Managing natural resources
    5. Solving disputes
    6. National security
  1. Complete step I of Project Citizen. This means read pages 1 thru 8 and answering the questions in your book.
  1. If you haven’t already, start to become aware of the elections coming up in November.  We will each follow a “less publicized” contest.  This means any race except the contests for President, Vice-President and governor.  Nothing to turn in this week on this.

 American Literature 

  1. Read ½ of the book you selected.
  2. From your book:
    1. Choose one character who you think was innovative and self-reliant.  With specific examples, explain, in one well structured paragraph, why you feel this character exhibits these qualities.
    2. Select one group of people from the book and list the expectations of members of their group.
    3. Develop 3 questions to discuss with others reading your book about the style of the writing, the cultures presented, the authenticity of the information, or anything else that catches your interest.

All of these may be on the same piece(s) of paper.

  2. For that tribe create a visual portrayal of your tribe and a 2-4 minute presentation that helps the class to know your tribe.  This can be:
    1. A diorama

    3. A PowerPoint
    4. A collage

You must include:

    1. A map of the tribes area
    2. Their diet and how they get their food
    3. Their beliefs and rituals
    4. Their relations with other tribes
    5. Social or leadership structure
    6. Clothing, housing, and art work
    7. How we know about them
