For elementary and middle school students, math practice questions will be done in their math classes. The middle school and high school will have a WASL practice day on March 5 from 1 – 2:30 pm. The Math WASL is administered in Grades 3,4,5,6,7,8,and 10. It consists of two sessions, one with tools (calculator, ruler, protractor) and one without. Successful students will: 1. Thoroughly read the problem and make sure they know what they are being asked to do. 2. Recognize the importance of explaining the reasoning behind their answer. 3. Break the problem down into its parts. 4. Show a step-by-step procedure. 5. Support their explanations with specific examples and details. 6. Use appropriate math vocabulary.

For math, a great way to practice is to have the student complete an extended response question, and then compare their solution to the examples made available on the OSPI site.
