Purpose: To approach math from an investigative, problem solving point of view. Topics covered could include probability and statistics, fractions, introductory algebra, and geometry concepts, . This course is intended to supplement the math curriculum that students are engaging in at home.
Description of learning activities: Students will participate in mathematical investigations which they will study in depth to solve, through the use of mathematical tools, manipulatives, and consulting peers. Students will be able to express their understanding of mathematical concepts and principles orally.
Follow-up or at-home activities: Students will be given short weekly assignments. Homework will vary but averages about 1/2 hour per week. Homework will reinforce concepts covered in class. Students have only a limited time to make up missing work.
