Core Class    High School Credit _____  .5 credits per semester  (Elective Credit only - does not fulfill graduation requirement for 3 credits of Math at the high school level.)

 

Purpose:  Students will review a variety of basic math skills and then move to beginning algebra skills. Units of study include integers and expressions, solving equations, decimals and equations, number theory, rational numbers and expressions, ratios/proportions/percents, equations and inequalities, graphing in the coordinate plane, algebra in geometry and measurement, area and volume formulas, right triangles in algebra, statistics and probability, and polynomials

     

Description of learning activities: .  Concepts are developed through graphs, diagrams and symbolic manipulation.  In class activities and lectures support student learning at home.  Students will be assessed via homework completion, quizzes and tests.

 

Follow-up or at-home activities: Students will be given weekly assignments. Homework will vary but averages about 5 hours per week. Homework will include textbook reading, reinforcement of concepts via online videos and resources, and completion of homework problems. Parents need to closely monitor work completion and assist students as needed. Students have only a limited time to make up missing work.
