  1. Either take your edited paper home and make it excellent or turn it in as is. Those who took their writing home to redo it, remember that it is due on Wednesday November 25th.
  2. Read what your group has chosen. If your group has not selected a book, please come talk to me about it next week.
  3. Descriptive writing: Select an African tribe either from the reading below, Things Fall Apart, or one of the websites below that you would like to make the mask for.
    1. http://www.rebirth.co.za/African_mask.htm
    2. http://www.africanvariety.com/
    3. http://www.artyfactory.com/africanmasks/context/function.htm

Draw or copy a detailed picture of the mask, or two.  Write a 3-4 paragraph description of the mask, the tribe, the uses of the mask, and what the mask means to the tribe.  Those who are prepared will begin building these masks on Dec. 3.

History

  1. Complete your group research assignment.

Field Trip Information

China field Trip Spring 2010

Next meeting: Fri., Dec. 11 - 9:30am Port. 4

We will be discussing our Silent Auction fundraiser and starting our Visa paperwork.

We have chosen our itinerary! Go to http://student-travel.eftours.com/MyTeachersTour/teachers-tour.aspx?salestour=557837 to view our exciting trip.

Planned dates of the trip: April 2 - 10, 2010

Final Deadline to register: Winter Break

The tour company we are using is EF Tours www.eftours.com

The trip will cost roughly $2000.00 +/-. EF Tours offers a payment plan that you can register for on their website. All payments will be made directly to EF Tours, not to PARADE. You will be able to use Parent Support Funds as a reimbursement. You will need to submit a receipt and then PARADE will issue you a check. We have begun our fundraising but have more opportunities available - it's not too late to jump on board!

We currently have 9 people signed up for the trip if we have at least 12-15 then we will have an exclusive tour only for PARADE. If we have fewer than this then we may be added to another group traveling at the same time. This trip is for students in grades 8-12 (and adults) as the content and pace of this trip is not conducive to younger students and siblings. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend but are reminded that this is a "Field trip" and not a "vacation".

If you have any questions at all please contact Ms. Marshall or Stacy.
