Tuesday Geography                

  

Due November 10

1. Research the area of North America you chose.  Bring notes to class or a PowerPoint for your group to work with.  Presentations will be November 17.

2. Study the states of the US and provinces of Canada, for our in class quiz.

 

Due October 27

   1. Review the physical geography concepts from last week.

   2. Find out what the following terms refer to and what they look like:

        tundra            trade winds            climate            mountain range        mantle        tide        epicenter        oasis        fossil       

        windward      crater                    geothermal energy

   3. Go the the National Geography Bee website and try the "Daily Challenge" a couple of times.

Due October 20

1. If you have not reported to the class about a South American country, please come prepared to do so next week.

2. If you have not tried "Globetracker" below, try it.

3. Color in the vocabulary sheet about the names for physical geography that was handed out in class.  Next week's quiz will be pictures of places in the world for which you will identify the land formation.

 

Due October 13:

    1. Go to the Globetracker site and follow at least one day's story: http://www.teachersfirst.com/globetracker/info-par.cfm  This is an online mission to figure geographical things out.  You will vote your ideas each time you are on the site.

    2. Study for your Central and South America quiz...countries, capitals, and major rivers

   3. If you did not present your country today, you get to next week.  See list below

Due October 6:

1. Complete the rainfall map and bring to class.

2. Make up a silly sentence using the first letter of each country in South America. Remember: Be good eat spinach hot not cold rice pudding.  This works for the countries of Central America from North to South: Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama.

3.  Find out 5 interesting cultural things about the country you chose, below, and bring to class to start teaching us about your country.

Due September 22

     1. For the country you selected below, bring three examples of their culture to share with the class.  We defined culture as their: food, clothes, government, festivals and traditions, language, arts, architecture, sports, technology, land and animal use, religion, currency, sanitation, and games.

     2. Try the games at www.maps.com  and http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/European_Geography.htm to practice locating countries and capitals in Europe.  On the second website you will need to slide the bar at the bottom of the page to the right to select a right-level game.  On that site also, there is audio...to tell you the correct answer.

     3. Practice, to be able to label at least 20 European countries on a blank map next week.

 

 

 

Due September 15

      1. Try the games at www.maps.com to become familiar with the countries of Europe.

      2. For the country you selected below, draw or copy a 1 page (8.5 X 11") map and:

                  a. Label the major mountains and rivers

                  b. Locate and label the 3 biggest cities

                  c. Find an interesting place to tell the class about

                  d. Label the countries that border your country.
