Physical Education

Statement of Philosophy

The goals of the physical education program at Carnation Elementary are to provide an environment where children are comfortable participating in activities at their skill level.  They will be provided with skills and opportunities to develop a healthy and active life style.

This year your students will be assessed in PE in a different manner.  There are three areas of assessment on the report card; Demonstrates physical skills that contribute to movement proficiency, follows rules and safety procedures while participating in a variety of physical activities, and demonstrates effort by willingly attempting and practicing all challenges.   This new view of physical education activities will give you a more complete picture of your child's development in this area.  Below is the criteria that I will be using to assess your child's performance and development.

To help ensure your child’s safety in the gym please help them to remember to wear appropriate shoes.  Shoes with platform or significant heels are not acceptable in the gym.  Flip-flops are also not safe.  During the winter months many students wear rain boots for protection from the weather.   However these boots do not provide appropriate support for PE activities.  On PE days please send gym shoes with your child if they are wearing boots.
