Hi and Welcome to First Grade at Carnation Elementary School!
My name is Mrs. Lisa Renahan, and I will be your child’s first grade teacher. This is my fourth year at Carnation Elementary, and I am very excited to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive school community. As most of you know, I am originally from upstate New York, and moved to Washington almost 6 years ago. I simply fell in love with the Pacific Northwest! I now live in Snoqualmie Ridge with my husband and Golden Retriever, Sia. This summer flew by quickly! I kicked off the summer with a trip back to NY to visit my family. We then had some of our family visit from the east coast, and took a trip to Friday Harbor and Vancouver BC. I hope all of you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer. I look forward to this school year, and working with all of you and your families.
As you plan for the start of school, please note the following 3 “Smart Start” days:
Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2nd and 3rd are “Smart Start” Days 1 and 2 at Carnation Elementary. You and your child will attend a half hour appointment in the classroom. Our classroom is room 213. At this appointment, the teacher gets to know your child better by playing some letter and counting games with them. Parents will be at another table in the room completing any additional paper work for the teacher. This appointment is not meant to be stressful. It is meant to help the teacher make informed decisions about the curriculum. Your “Smart Start” appointment is on ______________________ at ___________. Please call Joyce Trowbridge, our school secretary, at (425) 844-4550 if you are unable to attend your scheduled time. Scheduling is tight, but Joyce will try to accommodate your family’s needs.
Thursday, September 4th, is Smart Start Day 3. Students will come to school at their assigned time. This will allow the students to get acquainted with their classroom, some classmates, and their teacher. In order to make this time the most beneficial, the students have been divided up into 2 smaller groups. Parents do not attend Day 3 with their child. Your child’s “Smart Start” Day 3 attendance is on Thursday, September 4th at _________________.
All students will come to school on Friday, September 5th at their regular time.
